ABSTRACT

Covid-19 otherwise known as the corona virus is a virus that originated in Wuhan china and has spread from there to many parts of the world via airplanes and ships. The virus is said to have originated from the inhumane treatment of animals such as bats. Zoologists have suggested that the virus in bats is warded off due to their high metabolism but due to the stressful conditions experienced as a result of the mismanagement of these animals, the virus became easier to spread from the bats to humans as a result of the increased stress experienced. Once the virus enters humans, the symptoms experienced include coughing, a high fever, shortness of breath, and in some cases, sneezing, body aches (might be hantavirus), and migraines. This all depends on the immunity of the individuals infected as the virus can be asymptomatic to some individuals.

Due to the fact that the spread of the virus was fairly recent there were multiple math models running online to monitor the spread that differs by country. The spread was as a result inevitable because the airlines that transport lots of people were not shut down and the cruise lines that were initially quarantined were eventually allowed to let the passengers on board. We are at a point now where the virus has spread to approximately 90 percent of the world so the focus of this study is on the fatalities experienced.

So far, the most deaths experienced come from Italy and China although China of recent seems to be recovering from the virus after enforcing social distancing, quarantines, and administering the use of gloves and masks, to its population.

Using geospatial analysis, we shall pinpoint the fatalities experienced around the world and the factors that affect the number of deaths experienced in different nations and if there is any pattern to be uncovered other than the fact that the disease kills the immunocompromised individuals, and the old individuals more than it does the young across nations. Multiple sources will be used to acquire the data required to demonstrate the above stated including data from the news sources, business insiders (incase there is a link between economic impact and death rate), and the ArcGIS online database since this is an ongoing problem of which updates are currently being made by the day.  Health experts will also be researched to uncover what those patterns are.
